We are so excited about the personal recognition you will receive for earning your degree at the upcoming Terry Graduation Convocation! By participating in the 2010 Terry Class Gift you will be given a "Terry Class Donor" pin to wear with your regalia. Also, the initiative and the reason for the buttons will be explained in the program and from the podium. There is no doubt people will be looking for your button, so don't miss out!

If you have not yet made your $15 gift to the 2010 Terry Class Gift effort you can:

Here are some common questions asked about the 2010 Terry Class Gift:

Q: I made a gift to Senior Signature, does that count?

A: If you made a $50 gift to Senior Signature, then $35 was allocated to the Georgia Fund benefiting UGA as a whole and $15 was allocated for the Terry Annual Fund. In this case, your Terry Class Gift was made in conjunction with your Senior Signature gift.

However, if you made a $35 gift to Senior Signature, no monies were allocated specifically for the Terry College of Business. In this case, all you have to do is make a $15 gift to also participate in the Terry Class Gift.

Q: I made a pledge with my ILA, MBA or MAcc program. Will I still be recognized as a donor at the Terry Graduation Convocation?

A: YES! You will have a “Terry Class Gift Donor” button and will be recognized just the same.

Check with your company's community relations or human resources office to see if they match. If they do, they will have gift forms for you to include with your gift to Terry.

· Gifts of Securities: Gifts of stock are increasingly becoming a vehicle of choice for Terry College supporters. Stock gifts are made through The Arch Foundation, the charitable organization that raises private monies for the school, using one of three methods: Broker to Broker Transfer, Direct Transfer to The Arch Foundation for Terry, or by Making A Gift Of Appreciated Securities.

Why it is more important than ever to say, “I am Terry!”

Happy New Years to our Terry Family! I thought this would be a great time of year to highlight some of the resources your Terry College offers to keep you competitive in today’s business world. But first, I’d like to share some of the news the Terry College of Business Selig Center for Economic Growth projects for the 2010 Georgia job market.

2010 Economic Outlook Luncheon Highlight

2009 was a tough year for many. However, there is some good news for 2010, according to what was reported by Dean Robert Sumichrast at the Georgia Economic Outlook Luncheon, hosted by the Terry College of Business Office of Executive Programs, in Atlanta.

“The period of heavy job losses is over, although some job losses will persist into early 2010," Sumichrast said. "Georgia will end up losing about 370,000 jobs over the course of this recession. That's more than twice as many jobs as we lost in the previous recession and represents about 9 percent of total employment." Even though job growth in Georgia will finally turn positive next spring, it will be too weak to keep pace with the number of people entering the job market. "Georgia's unemployment rate will continue to rise, topping out at more than 11 percent in mid-2010," said Sumichrast, who contrasted the double-digit benchmark with the more bearable 4.6 percent jobless rates of 2006 and 2007.

Terry/UGA Resources for Your Career Development

Even with the expected growth, there is no doubt it is still tough to find a job or even keep the one you have these days. Fortunately, being a part of the Terry network provides you with resources:

• Terry Boot Camp is tailored for Terry students, but is also open to alumni who want to “practice their pitch” for job fairs and interviews.
• If you’ve been to the Terry Executive Education Center in Atlanta , then you can find Nicole Lechene, Director of Alumni Career Services, whose office is in the same building. Nicole can help you with a career assessment; career search strategy and action plan; resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and many other topics.

What does "I am Terry" mean to you?

"I am Terry" by way of adoption. I lived in Nashville, wanted to move to this part of Georgia and knew UGA would be a great place to work. Then I found Terry and I quickly learned what it meant to them to "be" Terry and how FORTUNATE I was to be, as well.

Terry students are hungry, competitive and well-prepared. Terry alumni are enthusiastic, givers and loyal to their Terry family. They are leaders. Terry faculty care about their students, guiding them through their educational experience all the way to their future employment, if at all possible. It is not enough for them to provide lessons and administer tests--they strive to provide real-world experiences, while connecting their students to alumni who can help them enter the workforce. Terry administration works relentlessly to improve programs and create even better opportunities for students and alumni alike. Terry friends give to the college's programs because they know and appreciate the impact the college has on the region, both by offering resources and by graduating tomorrow's business leaders. Terry staff are loyal cheerleaders and support for the entire above mentioned process. I am so lucky to be among those in the final category.

A conversation with an alum: Why come to a Terry event?

Since coming on board with the Terry College Office of Development and Alumni Relations, I’ve been wowed by enthusiasm every time I encounter a Terry graduate. In fact, Jill Walton, Director of Alumni Relations, and I traveled to Macon, Georgia just a couple days ago and found that same enthusiasm present. So instead of wondering, I just asked one of the attendees, Drew Slocum, '99:

“With all the things going on in your life and work, why did you take the time to attend a Terry Alumni Lunch?”

Much to my delight, Drew had so many reasons for participating I was able to create a "Top Ten List!"

1. We always hear of alumni events in Atlanta and Athens. We appreciate the efforts of Terry College and fellow local alumni to also provide us the opportunity to get the same attention in our own backyard.
2. These events are exclusive to alumni. That goes a long way. Unlike many sports-related events we could attend locally in the community or on even through UGA on campus, we know we are going to be among the Terry family and other like-minded people.
3. There is the aspect of reuniting with friends from the past that you never see too much of. It is an excuse to reconnect.
4. There is the business networking aspect that is essential, especially now, to succeed in a world where often it is not what you know, but who you know.
5. There is the potential for meeting new friends that are of good caliber.
6. We all like to do anything we can that takes us back to the days of going to college, that mindset, the memories...
7. And it goes without saying that we all like to support something we were a part of and believe in. Terry is home and I want to still be involved as it grows and continues to achieve new accomplishments.
8. It’s giving to something that gave to us that makes the difference. I know I am where I am at today because Terry invested in me and I want future students to have the same opportunity. I can make sure that happens both through giving AND by staying connected through attending events such as this.
9. Attending this event helped me identify how I can help Terry through my own expertise and I’m excited to help!
